General Rental Terms

Driver’s requirements:

  • A valid credit card (not a debit card) in the name of the main driver must be presented as guarantee for the rental. Our local car rental partner may reserve an amount equal to the excess as guarantee, which will be released after the end of the rental period if no damage/theft has occurred.

Please Note:This company will not accept prepaid, recharge or virtual credit cards – or any card on which the relevant characters are not raised (‘embossed’).

  • The driver must produce a valid driver’s license in his name. The driver must have held a valid driver’s license for at least 1 year. International driver’s license is require for non EU citizens or in case that the driver’s license is not written in Roman characters . In addition to the national driver’s license, a valid passport or ID card has to be presented at the reception of the vehicle. It is the driver’s responsibility to ensure that he/she presents the appropriate documents to the car rental company at the start of the rental. No refunds will be given for the rentals rejected due to non-production of valid driver’s license. Faxed or photocopied licenses will not be accepted. The driver must also have an ID card or a passport.
  • Driver age: The Normal Minimum Driver age is: 23. For some categories is possible for a driver aged from 21-22 to rent. In this case the renter has to pay the “young-driver-fee”. The Maximum Driver age is: 75.

Your rental excludes: 
Fuel, Highway tolls, Traffic Violations (parking and traffic fines).  The renter is responsible since the time of picking the vehicle and up to the time of returning it and handing the keys in a representative of the Automotorental’s local partner for any fines, traffic tickets and attached administration penalties for which is obligated to pay by himself and deliver to the local partner a valid copy of the payment, otherwise charges of the above plus expenses (the cost depends on the local partner) should be estimated by the company at the time of being announced either by the renter himself upon return, or by the police or local traffic authorities at a later time, and should be charged without any time limit for these specific charges.

Fuel policy:
The vehicle is delivered with some fuel (the amount of which is written on the contract). The renter is responsible for returning the vehicle with the same amount of fuel in it. It will be necessary that the customers show the petrol station receipt on return confirming they have refilled the tank. If the vehicle is not returned with the same fuel level , the refund of the amount paid will have a deduction equal to the value of the missing liters of fuel (according to the current petrol station prices) plus a penalization (the cost depends on the local partners special terms). The renter is the one and only responsible to put the right kind of fuel (petrol/diesel/gas). There is no refund for the unsed fuel.

Payment method:

You can book any vehicle very easily via our website. Please note that all payments will be made in Euro. Automotorental does not keep any reservation fee unlike other car rental sites.The amount of the total payment will be shown in the last stage of the booking process.Once you fill the form with all the details about you, your reservation request will be created.
At this point you will be asked to pay via your card either the 15% of the total amount as a deposit. You have to pay at least the 15% of the total amount via your card upon booking, the rest can be paid either cash or with your card upon delivery of the vehicle. Don’t hesitate to write down the credit card info because all the data you give on our website are sent encrypted to EUROBANK( via VERYSIGN SECURED), so that nobody, not even us, can access to it.

As a company, we require a credit card guarantee for the rental, which depends on the car
or moto category that of your choice.

Automotorental accepts VISA/MASTERCARD/VISA ELECTRON/EUROLINE or even prepaid cards for the depositAlthough there must be a credit card (VISA or MASTERCARD, but NOT VISA ELECTRON) on the driver’s name with at least the amount of the excess in it for the guarantee- deposit, when you take the vehicle.

Booking process

Step 1: Write down your request details (date, time,place), pick the ideal car for you and add the extras you need.

Step 2: Pay the small deposit and send the request to our local provider and receive an email with all your booking request information.

Step 3: Receive a confirmation email with all the details that you have to know about your booking (e.x. meeting point).

*In case the local provider cannot accept your request the deposit that has been blocked will be declined immediately by Automotorental (after our cancelation of the transaction you will have to wait for your bank to return you the amount of the deposit that is blocked).

Extras

The availability of the extra equipment is not visible on the website, meaning that even if you book one there is a possibility not to have any available. In the case of not having any available you won’t be charged anything.

*Due to insurance rules you will be required to fit the child seat yourself
in the car.

** Even when we offer online an extra for free, you cannot have it without extra charging if you don’t select through the booking process.

Cancellation Policy 

Free of Charge for cancellations made online via www.automotorental.com 7 days before the rental start date.
Cancellations less than 7 days incur a non-refundable maximum amount of 50 Euro* (or equivalent currency).
No Refund is made for a No Show or failure to produce the correct documentation  like driver’s license( one-year-old driving license, driver over 23) , passport/ ID card, credit card (not a debit card) etc.

Ferrying the car :
Is not allowed, if the renter don’t purchase the optional ferry insurance.

Across the border rentals :
are not allowed. In case of offence against Cross Border & Territorial Restrictions all insurances lose their validity.

Out of operating hour charges
We serve you for free between 08:00 and 21:00. Any ‘out of operating hour’ charges, if applicable, are always INCLUDED in our prices.
Any deviation from the confirmed pick up/ return times on your voucher could incur extra charges, closed station or your booking treated as No Show.
We strongly recommend contacting your local provider in the case of any time change.

Especially for airport-railway-bus station pickups, it is necessary for Automotorental to be given the correct arranged arrival time. You have to inform us for any delay that you may have, if you
are aware of in time.

In the event that a flight/train/bus is delayed or for any other reason causing the delivery to
fall outside normal working hours, you will be automatically charged with the “out of operation hour” service.

Arrival details:

Flight Details – If you are arriving by plane, you must inform us of your arrival flight number at least 3 days before your rental is due to start. If you do not, we cannot be held responsible if your plane is delayed and as a result your car is not available. Please ensure that you enter your flight number and not any other number the airline may have sent you, such as a confirmation number.

Period or rental:

Rental days are based on a 24-hour basis, commencing at the time shown on the voucher.
The return time must be the agreed time which is written on the contract. Any modification
requires the acquiescence of Automotorental. Returns or delays over one hour than register
are charged at 50% of the agreed daily rate, while more than 3 hours are charged as an extra
day.

The agreed return date and time will be written on the contract. As for the time, the agreed
time doesn’t have necessarily be the same with the delivery time. You can change the return
date or time only if you contact the local partner and they give the right to extend your rental period. The extension of the rental period will be charged and the rate may not be the same with the one you had booked the car.

Authorized driver
Both main and additional driver have to sign the car rental contract at the time of pick up.
It is advisable to book this option online to take advantage of our online price.
Young Driver Fee: Always INCLUDED in our prices.
Note: Any young driver fee, if applicable to additional drivers is advisable to be paid online.

Insurance Cover

-Collision Damage Waiver means that the car is insured towards collision damages, also those caused by the renter. There is a deductible amount which is different in every vehicle.

Liability Insurance for damages or injuries to any 3rd party outside the vehicle.

-Third Party Bodily Injuries (excluding the driver of the rented car), up to 1.000.000 euro (per person)

-Third Party Property Damages (excluding the rented car), up to 1.000.000 euro.

-Theft Insurance covers you against theft of the rental car except for the excess of the car.

-Ferry Insurance covers you by the insurance that is already included in your booking while you are on a ferry boat.

-Personal Accident Insurance is an extra insurance cover for the driver’s body injuries, up to 5.000 euro.

-WUG covers you for some extra parts of the cars (Wheels/ Underside and glass).

*the insurance cover that is included in your package or the extra insurance cover that you buy through the booking cover is coming from the local partner and not our website. Please make sure that what you selected on the website booking form is written on your contract also.

Exceptions of all insurances:

Charges for any of the damages written below will be charged directly to the client, the most important of which are the following: Antenna, trays, clutch and gearbox, damage to car lock, door handle, door sill, loss or damage to keys, windshield wipers, glass, mirrors, wheels, tires, interior of the car, spare key and car jack, hubcap, lights, gas cap, warning triangles, damage to upholstery of a car, damages to the roof, damages caused by roof rack and any luggage on it, extreme dirtiness in a car, underside damage, personal belongings in a rented car, damage due to negligence, tire punctures and burst tires, water submersion or salt-water damage, hail damage, fuel errors, damage to child seats and baby seats, lack of electricity because of forgotten turned on electrical devices, damage or loss of car documents, damage or loss of registration plate, damage or theft of car logo. The car rental company, in any case, is not obligated to replace a flat tire or damages in music devices (radio, CD/mp3 player, etc.).Towing costs are not covered by any insurance. Automotorental will not refund any telephone, taxi or hotel costs. Automotorental will not be held responsible for anyone driving under the influence of alcohol/drugs, causing willful damage, off road driving, driving without care and attention or damages caused by negligence. Automotorental do not provide coverage for damages made on unsealed roads. Driving the rental car on glacier is forbidden. Vehicle must not be operated in any race, speed test, rally or contest. The client will accept direct responsibility in respect of such claims.

Any unnoticed accident or damage to the vehicle may be interpreted as negligence. This may result in a charge to the client.

Excluded from the insurance is the use of the vehicle for the transport of dangerous goods. All insurance cover as part of the rental contract will become void, in particular, if an unauthorized driver has used the vehicle or if the driver of the vehicle does not possess the required driver’s license at the time of the event giving rise to claim. Any use of the vehicle in a dangerous manner or illegal purpose or when it is damaged or unsafe is prohibited. There is no insurance cover for a driver that disobeys the Highway Code of Greece.

Accident/ Theft

The rented vehicle must never be removed from the place of accident until police report has been completed and the car rental company has been notified. In case of any accident involving your rented car, you must immediately contact the nearest police station and make an accident report. The report should state if you were driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. If you do not report the accident to the police and comply with the requirements under the country’s law, the insurance may become invalid. It is essential that you also report any accident or damage to the local provider.
In case of other damages to the rented car, the above procedure should also be followed. If the vehicle is damaged while parked you have to report the damage to our local provider before the car is moved.
In case of theft, it is mandatory that you immediately inform the car rental company, file a police report and then give a copy of this document to the car rental company. Car documents and keys must be handed to our company.
In general, the client must IMMEDIATELY report all damages to our company. Any unnoticed accident or damage to the vehicle may be interpreted as negligence. This may result in a charge to the client.

In order to use the insurance that you have added you have to strictly follow the instructions below in case of an accident, damage or theft:

  • You have to inform immediately our car rental company.
  • You have to contact the police and take a written report, even for the smallest damage made.
  • When you return the car to the rental station, you also have to make a theft or damage report with the local provider.

You also have to give to the local provider:

  • Theft or damage report and police report.
  • Your copy of the rental contract.

In case of an accident that is not your fault the statements (from the police and the accident care assistance ) have to prove that you are not the one that caused it. If the other vehicle’s insurance company doesn’t accept their fault the local provider has the right to block the amount of your excess till the two insurance companies make an agreement.  If the driver is not pleased with the result it is his decision if he will pay claim in courts, Automotorental is not responsible in getting part in this process.

In case of repair any damage, the vehicle should be repaired only at authorized repair station of Automotorental’s local partner. It’s prohibited to repair the car at any other repair station recommended by the renter expect the official one in Greece by the vehicle’s manufacturer, assuming the working days of repair charged to the renter. The local provider has the right not to repair the damage of the car, but the renter that caused it still has to pay for it. The local partner must give a receipt to the client for the amount charged for the damage repair, but is not obligated to show any of the invoices of his rental company received for the repair.

Using our website signifies your acceptance of the above together with the General Terms and Conditions of Automotorental.
The rental agreement entered into at the local destination is exclusively between yourself and the car rental provider.
